The Baby Log is a user-friendly beginner longboard surfboard designed to make paddling, catching waves and progressing on a hardboard easier. Its generous volume, stable outline, soft rails and gentle rocker provide the forgiveness newer surfers need while maintaining enough responsiveness for experienced surfers looking for an easy, high-wave-count board.

Designed as a natural step up from a foam surfboard, the Baby Log combines the stability and paddle power beginners love with the lighter weight and improved performance of an EPS hardboard. The result is an easy-to-ride longboard that catches waves early, feels stable underfoot and remains responsive as your surfing progresses.

The Baby Log is available from 7'6" to 9'0", allowing surfers to choose between a shorter, more maneuverable ride and maximum stability, flotation and paddle power. Its versatile design performs from approximately 1-foot surf through slightly overhead conditions, making it a dependable year-round option for surfers who prioritize wave count and fun.

The Baby Log name comes from two places: the baby loggerhead sea turtles found along Florida beaches and the traditional “logs” that helped define longboard surfing.

HIGH-VOLUME, STABLE OUTLINE

The Baby Log carries generous width and volume to create a stable platform with excellent flotation. The additional volume helps surfers paddle efficiently, enter waves earlier and maintain stability when getting to their feet.

SOFT, FORGIVING RAILS

Softer rails make the Baby Log more forgiving than a performance-oriented surfboard. They create a predictable feel through the water and help newer surfers develop confidence while still allowing the board to respond as their surfing improves.

GENTLE ROCKER

The Baby Log's gentle rocker helps maximize paddle speed and wave-catching ability while providing enough curve to comfortably handle a variety of wave shapes. The result is an efficient board that doesn't require perfect positioning to get into waves.

LIGHTWEIGHT EPS CONSTRUCTION

The Baby Log uses an EPS core and epoxy construction to provide high flotation without the excessive weight associated with traditional heavy longboards. This makes the board easier to carry, paddle and maneuver while providing the durability needed for regular use.

Size Width Thickness Volume
7'6" 22 1/2" 2 17/20" 57.3L
8'0" 22 7/8" 3" 65.7L
8'6" 23" 3 1/4" 75.6L
9'0" 23 1/2" 3 3/4" 93.8L

7'6" — 57.3L

The most maneuverable Baby Log. Best for smaller/lighter surfers, surfers progressing from a foam board, or more experienced riders who want the Baby Log's easy wave-catching characteristics in a shorter package.

8'0" — 65.7L

A versatile balance of stability, paddle power and maneuverability. A strong option for surfers who want plenty of flotation without moving into a full-size longboard.

8'6" — 75.6L

Additional stability and paddle power make the 8'6" an excellent choice for newer surfers, larger riders or anyone prioritizing easy wave entry and a high wave count.

9'0" — 93.8L

The maximum-stability Baby Log. The 9'0" provides the most flotation, paddle power and wave-catching ability and is ideal for surfers who prioritize stability and ease of use.

Is the Baby Log a good surfboard for beginners?

Yes. The Baby Log was designed specifically to make paddling, wave catching and progression easier. Its high volume, stable outline, soft rails and gentle rocker create a forgiving platform for newer surfers while maintaining the responsiveness of a hard surfboard.

Is the Baby Log a good board after learning on a foam surfboard?

Yes. The Baby Log is designed to be a natural transition from a foam board to a hard surfboard. It retains much of the stability, flotation and easy paddling that make foam boards beginner-friendly while providing improved responsiveness and performance.

What size Baby Log should I ride?

The right size depends on your weight, experience and priorities. Smaller Baby Logs provide more maneuverability, while larger sizes provide greater stability, flotation and paddle power. Surfers prioritizing easy wave catching should generally choose more volume, while experienced surfers may prefer a smaller size for increased responsiveness.

Is the Baby Log a mid length or a longboard?

The Baby Log is offered across sizes that bridge the gap between a mid length and traditional longboard. The shorter versions provide more maneuverability, while the 8'6" and 9'0" versions deliver the stability, paddle power and glide associated with longboards.

What waves is the Baby Log best for?

The Baby Log excels in small, everyday surf where paddle power and easy wave catching are valuable, but its forgiving shape and rocker allow it to handle clean conditions up to slightly overhead.

Is an epoxy longboard good for beginners?

EPS/epoxy construction can work particularly well for beginner-oriented longboards because it provides excellent flotation at a relatively light weight. The Baby Log combines this construction with a stable, high-volume shape specifically designed for easy paddling and progression.
